Information for Stanford Students

Class Requirements

Students can earn one unit of credit (Satisfactory/No Credit) by registering for ME 421 on AXESS and completing the course requirements below:

Class Attendance: Enrolled students must attend at least 7 of the 8 lectures during Winter Quarter in person. An attendance sheet will be passed out in class for students to initial during the lecture.

SCPD students (and others who have obtained written consent from the Course Director) may watch the lectures online. 

Speaker Evaluations: Students may be asked to complete one or more session evaluation forms from time to time.

End-of-Quarter Essay: Enrolled students must submit a 2-3 page essay at the end of the quarter summarizing key issues covered and what they learned from the course. The instructor will provide additional guidance on what is expected for this essay towards the end of the quarter.

Grading: This course is offered on a Satisfactory/No Credit basis only.

Who May Take This Class?

This class is open to students from all Schools and Departments at Stanford. Graduate School of Business (GSB) students can sign up for the class through AXESS — there is no need to go through the GSB sign-up procedure for this course. School of Medicine and Law students can also sign up for the class through AXESS.

If you want to attend the lectures, but do not wish to receive academic credit, you may audit the course. Please identify yourself to the course instructor at the beginning of the quarter.
